How to Clean a Mouse Pad
Clean your cloth mouse pad or desk mat without damaging it: dry dusting, gentle hand washing, and drying tips that protect stitched edges and printed artwork.
A clean mouse pad tracks better and lasts longer. Most cloth mats need nothing more than occasional dusting and an occasional gentle wash — the key is avoiding heat and harsh scrubbing.
Everyday maintenance
Once a week, wipe the surface with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust and skin oils. This keeps the surface texture consistent and prevents the mouse from feeling sticky. Many modern mats, including NovaPad's, have a liquid-resistant coating, so small spills can be blotted with a damp cloth before they dry.
Deep cleaning a cloth mat
For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Gently work the soapy water over the surface with your hands or a soft cloth — avoid scrubbing with brushes, which can damage the print and the weave. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Drying and re-flattening
Air dry the mat flat, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not put a cloth mat in a washing machine or dryer — heat can melt the rubber base and warp the edges. If the edges curl after washing, lay the mat flat under a few books overnight. NovaPad recommends the same: damp microfiber cloth with mild soap, then air dry.
